Ugh, never watch movies that have been dubbed. They're never the same. I wouldn't even go see Run Lola Run if it was dubbed. Although, I don't speak German, it was way better than a dubbed version.

RE: the English dubbing on the Lola DVD

In a word, it's terrible. Most of the voices are inferior (especially Manni's), the voice acting is amateurish, and the silly dialogue that was chosen changes the tone of almost every scene. I recommend sticking with the English subtitles.

Good day everybody!
ernsthaft!
--- alright, a few words in English: I am delighted and surprised about the feedback in this guest book. It is a relief that there are still some people who are not only interested in Hollywood blockbusters but also in something else.
heartful greetings to all movie lovers
from Germany ... jess

Happy 18 january - the day after discovering the genius of you, Mr. Tykwer. Your Web "statement" is correct in assuming the message in Lola is universally extended, contained, received and more. Thank you.

sure qualifies ...

let me just say that I saw Lola Rennt 2x and it kicked

beautiful and talented. I'm not a fan of any American
actresses but Ms. Potente. She makes all of them look
so ditzy and shallow. Anyway, I can't wait til Lola
Rennt comes here on video(December 7) so I can watch
Lola run al the time!

What can I say? I recall seeing the shorts for Run Lola Run when watching the movie Bedrooms & Hallways. Out of interest, I decide to go to the Advance Screenings here in Sydney on 16/10/1999 and was blown away. Loved the soundtrack, loved the red hair, l
ved the german quotes, loved the still shorts. Do you get the feeling I was rather fond of the movie? Fond enough to see it the second time the next evening at 6.30pm.

Hola, Como Esta?
It's a bright sunny saturday afternoon in The Annex in Downtown Toronto Canada and I've surfed my way from info.cern.ch reading about the inventor of the world wide web, Tim Berners-Lee, somehow by following links I have ended up here, at the official gue
tbook of the unofficial Tim Tykwer homepage.
Go figure.
My first ever job was at the world's first ever Cineplex odeon at the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto.
I was 15. The middle of the 80's. I got a job there 'cuz I was addicted to seeing movies 4-6 times a week and my allowance was bigger than America's foreign trade deficit. So, I got a job at theatre that had, at the time revolutionary concept of, 17 scre
ns. It actually started with 21 screens, but they then busted up 4 screens to create theatre # 5 which with 400 seats became the BIG theatre within a theatre. The other screens had only 100-200 seats each.
I got paid to watch movies. Wow, dream job at the time.
Fast forward: This past year I lived in Ottawa, Canada's capital. My past time of movie watching became enhanced in this film-fest frenzy city. It seemed there was always some sort of movie festival going on. Usually inspired and organized by the foreign
mbassies and their staff, Last december '98, for a fortnight, the member states of the EU played a movie from each of their home countries. It was the usual frigid ottawa night that my best friend at the time, Bettina Spreng, talked me into seeing WinterS
eepers at the Museum of Civilation. I was hooked. This ain't no hollywood movie I told myself, it was so original, so amazing with the scenes. Later, at the University of Ottawa cinema International weekly FREE friday night movies, I caught 'life is all y
u get'. Later on that month, Bettina 'splained to me what 'wrong construction site' really meant. My german lessons thus began.
Then I heard that Ottawa's rather funky art house theatre, the Bytowne, would be playing 'Run Lola Run'.
The Bytown is a nice colourful art deco era restored theatre on Rideau near the one time jail that now is a youth hostel.
My brother, and Bettina and her friend Christine from Korea all trekked to Lola's first marathon in ottawa.
W O W ! ! ! !
everybody here already knows how 'maaaazzzing' that movie is, so no need to review it here.
I really hoped that Run Lola Run would actually be normally released across north America as it rightly deserved to be. Aw well. Hollywood is all you get.
I also felt, that this is one of those movies you could only view once, then the 'novelty' would wear off.
After reading the other entries here, and checking out www.torontomovies.com , I see it's still playing here at the carlton. Well I gotta go and run to the theatre, the movie starts in about 35 minutes. (yeah? So what if I 'need' the extra 15 minutes, wha
can I say, I'm outta shape!)
Anyone else here from Toronto? email me.
Perhaps a Tim Tykwer film festival is in order eh?
Keep smilin'
~ HïMY! ~

I saw Lola for the first time the other night, great film, but it only played for one night at a theatre here. I didn't quite get the actual wording and author of the second quote at the start of the film. Something to the effect"...before the game is l
ke after the game..." If anyone knows, please let me know.

fantastic too. Many greetings to all "Lola"fans and Tom and framka, who was fantastic as Lola and ofcourse Moritz, from Marlene (15) from the Netherlands.

Hello there! Thanx for the cool site and putting it in English for those of us that do not know German. It is unfortunate that I do not know German because I really think it is a fascinating language.

Ever since Run Lola Run (LOla Rennt) came out here in Chicago(JUly), I have seen it 8x! Unfortunately i think it will be taken off of the theaters this week or soon...I am in love with this film, and obsessed!!! I cannot wait until the subtitle version
s released on video so I can buy it right away, I am very anxious about getting it right away!!! When I compare this very rich and artistic German film to American films, American film just seems so unimaginative and weak! I haven't seen a film I loved
his much in a long time & I would definitely say that this was the best film of the year!!!

I loved the creative, stimulating imagery, high energy techno music (I have the soundtrack which i overplay, its cool how the director had a lot to do with the music in RLR and it really fits everything perfectly, Also Franka's voice is very cool!),and ve
y funny yet dark humor! Another thing that really stands out to me is the very charming and expressive acting between Franka Potente & Moritz Bleibtreu. I think their acting together is very consistent, strong and charismatic! They have qualities that I
don't see in American acting, such as the way they use expression and non verbal acting to convey feeling on screen. I am obsessed with finding more on these stars, unfortunately there isn't much out, I have most every review from american magazines I ha
e because i buy mags. a lot. I think Franka is so cool and inspiring as Lola! Love how the animated Lola jumps over that guy and dog on the stairs and growls back at him, taking her life in her own hands!

Moritz is definitely equally talented as an actor, also. He is very charming and of course in my opinion very gorgeous!

I know it is supposed to be an action oriented film where u don't think, but I do. there is so much underlying meaning in the film, in my opinion! I analyze the film every time i see it, there are so many interesting symbols with the time, running, #20,
olor red, & so on...

My devotion to this film has caused me to tell everyone about it, write about in my writing class and create a little website devoted to film and stars, which I think is cool but it isn't the most sophisticated since I have no skill in graphic design etc.
.I just wanted to have a place to put my fave pics of the film and my ideas/opinions on it! I left my website address on the above info. I have never been so into a film or felt so inspired before! This film leaves me feel exhilarated, excited, alive eac
and every time I see it! I hope sometime I can find other films by Tom Tykwer and other films with Franka Potente and Moritz Bleibtreu acting! As for now, there aren't many German films accessible where I live, as I have looked :(

p.s. my latest german obsession, the German band Die Fantastischen Vier which i recently ordered thru the internet imported! I'm not normally into hip hop but it's an excellent cd, great voices! Thomas D from the Run Lola Run sdtrk is in it!

Hey! Run Lola is one of the best movies I've seen in years. American filmmakers have just gotten too lazy relying on trite cookie cutter action formats. It's so refreshing to see something like Lola or Alex De La Inglesia's Day of the Beast out there happ
ly running down every convention. It's almost enough to make me emigrate! Cheers...

Jan said I should toss my thoughts up here, so here they are.

When I mentioned the guard/father possible link to my sister, her reaction was "Yeah, I don't when I started thinking that, but it made sense." On the other hand, doesn't the banker-father says that the real father died before her birth? Jan said, "Well
not quite, he said that her real father didn't witness her birth anymore cause at the time he had left her mother already." I'm curious if I'm misremembering or if the English subtitles aren't entirely accurate - I'll check when I go to see it for the f
urth time.

So I started letting random ideas float around connected with the new found knowledge that the guard is the man in the ambulance. This is some vague attempt to write them down. Much of this has not been completely thought through, so feel free to poke h
les in it.

Things we think we know: The guard is the man in the ambulance. The guard remembers from scene to scene. The guard is aware of the game and is somehow responsible for it (based on the opening sequence).

Random deductions/ideas (these are _not_ all defensible): The guard knows he is going to die from a heart attack (following scene 1). Why doesn't he do
something different to try to prevent it (go to a hospital)? He set up the game, right (he kicked the soccer ball)? So why can't he write the heart attack out of the script? Lola has to save him - that's her _real_ role (not saving Manni). Manni is ho
the guard motivates Lola to save him (the guard). The guard is incapable of saving himself, for whatever reason, and has to design a game to get someone else to save him. This is similar to the "Kin of Ata Are Waiting For You", a book about a society wh
re you are only allowed to feed others, not yourself. What is the relative timing of Manni retrieving the money from the bag man and Lola saving the guard's life? What if the guard is an example of the "Tinkerbell" myth - he only exists if people believ
in him (see also Fantasia in "The Never-Ending Story" or other similar myths). He sets up a game and picks Lola to be the character who remembers. She realizes that he set up the game and that he is why she gets multiple opportunities, and so she belie
es in him and he is spared the heart attack. Having spared his life, she and Manni are now free to resume theirs (albeit with a little more money:). In a way, the guard is her father even if he isn't her biological father.

Just some random mental ramblings.

Also, am I the only one who heard similarities between "The Unanswered Question" and the music from The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover? I've got the soundtrack, and Michael Nyman's work on that movie was exquisite. On the other hand, actually l
stening to it I'm thinking the similarities are more in the mood and feeling the passages evoke than in the actual music.

One other thing - I'd _love_ to see this movie in a crowd of people (the theatres here in Anchorage are pretty empty) without any chairs - everyone standing, and at crucial sequences the entire crowd would bring up a chant of "Run, Lola, Run." (or "Lola,
ennt", if we knew any German:).
