X-Filme and Miramax signed an 18-month deal to jointly develop
new film projects. The US company will function as distribution partner or co-producer. "We are
equal partners, though; we are neither selling the company nor our talents", said X-Filme MD
Stefan Arndt. The two partners will decide with each individual project Miramax will be
co-producer or take over world distribution etc. Miramax is also planning to shoot its own films
in Germany, said Arndt.

At the European Film Festival, Lola came away empty handed. Instead,
Roberto Benigni won two awards for La vita e bella.

Lola will be shown at the Sundance Festival in Park City,
Utah from 21 to 31 January 1999.

Lola is nominated for the European Film Award
(EFA).
Tom Tykwer on the nomination in the running for the Oscar: "Of course, I am very
pleased about this decision! I hope that Lola can run as far as L.A.
and prove that our new films can also have an effect on an international level as well."

Lola Goes To Hollywood?
The committee which was appointed by the German Export-Union to select the German entry for the
71st OSCAR competition for the Best Foreign Language Film 1998, has unanimously selected the film
Run Lola Run from the three films submitted.
A remarkable detail: The committee nominated Tykwer's film, although the end of the year is still
two months away... :-)
The AAA will announce the final nominations on 9 February 1999.

Winterschläfer (Winter Sleepers) will be shown at the
Pusan Film Festival, Korea (!). Lola opens in Austria,
Switzerland and Italy.

On 4 Dezember 1998 the first European Film Festival will be held in London. Among three other
German films Tom Tykwers "Lola rennt" is also nominated.

Lola is number 4 of the German box office with an audience of
1.5 million viewers so far.

The next project of Tom Tykwer will be the film Der Chef (The
Chef) with a budget of ca. 7 million Mark (4 million US $ / 2.5 million British £). It
will be "a much bigger and more complicated project. It stretches over 40 years and describes the
career of a young man who doesn't want to be a boss but must become one. It is a very dark, but
also exciting film, a thriller, a nightmare about masculinity." [Tykwer]
