2002-2003

June 10th 2003:
--  Yet another quick note to show that I'm still around. :-)
Over 120 people have signed the Winter Sleepers soundtrack petition so far, and even though I don't have that much time for decent updates yet, I will definitely (and finally :-)) send it to X-Filme by the end of this month, which makes June 30th the last day to sign it.

October 11th:
--  Hi everyone, yes, believe it or not, I'm still around. :-) Since the Real Life[tm] is still keeping me awfully busy, I don't have the time for decent updates, also huge apologies to everyone I still owe an email, I'll really try to answer your questions soon.

--  The links to some of the video clips on the multimedia pages seem to be broken, I'll try to fix them some time soon.

--  At the beginning of November, the Evangelische Akademie Hofgeismar will be hosting a workshop that will focus on Tom Tykwer's work and try to explore the style and feel of his films (1-3 November 2002). in German

--  And please don't forget to support my petition for re-releasing the Winter Sleepers soundtrack. :-)

August 25th:
--  For the time being, the soundtrack of Winter Sleepers is still unavailable. But a few weeks ago, X-Filme asked me how many people have contacted me who were interested in this cd. Since they have shown interest and want to see if there is a market for it, I decided to start a petition to convince them to re-release the Winter Sleepers soundtrack. If you would like to see the soundtrack in the stores again, too, feel free to support my petition.

--  Believe it or not, but the guestbook is finally working again. :-)

August 12th:
--  tykwer-online.de is back!!! Some time in early July, the whole site crashed completely for no apparant reason. My provider had no explanation for this either, instead the friendly people there gave me the tip to regularly change my ftp password "to avoid surprises". Where would I be without them...
Anyways, so I decided to upload the whole site again, in order to at least re-establish things the way they were before. Since I am currently busy with final tests and papers for my university studies (and this time it's for real!), I don't think I'll find the time to update this page regularly within the next weeks or even months. Which also means that it's not very likely that I'll answer emails straight away, although I'm pretty sure I will answer them eventually. :-) Feel free to use the message board which should be working again by now.

--  Oh, one new info on Tom though: Currently, he is in Paris, shooting a short film named True starring Natalie Portman (!) and Melchior Beslon (the blind guy from The Princess and the Warrior). As usual, Frank Griebe is director of photography. The film is part of a project called 'Paris, je t'aime' for which directors like Jean-Luc Godard, Woody Allen, Agnès Varda, Sally Potter and Johnny Depp will each film one story that takes place within one of each of the 20 arrondissements of Paris.

April 8th:
--  After emails from two people lamenting the decline of Tom's integrity by doing a Lola sequel, I know this April fool's trick worked somehow and we can now return to our regular news section. ;-)

--  According to Area DVD, the release of the German RC2 dvd of Heaven is scheduled for August 29th 2002. But don't hold your breath, it most probably will be the German edition without English subtitles.

--  On Wednesday, May 1st, German tv channel ARD will show Run Lola Run at 8.15 pm, and just a day after that, they will show Winter Sleepers at 11 pm.

April 1st:
--  Did you notice? At this year's Oscars® ceremony, a clip was shown in which numerous people mentioned their favourite movie, and yes, if you listen closely, Run Lola Run was among them. :-) And speaking of which, I updated the Lola's references section of my homepage.

--  So here it is, the sequel we've all been waiting for:
Lola runs again:

A bulletin to the press by X-Filme confirms that during the post-production of Heaven, Miramax producers Anthony Minghella and Harvey Weinstein convinced Tom Tykwer to write a follow-up story to his international success Lola rennt. Apparently, Tom was offered € 4 million to continue the story of red-haired Lola, which was an offer he couldn't resist.
Franka Potente is said to be interested to play Lola again ("If it hadn't been Tom, I would've said No right away!"), but Manni will be played by Franka's co-star of The Princess And the Warrior, Benno Fürmann. The shooting of the film is scheduled for the summer of 2002.
The story will be (surprise, surprise) similar to the first film: Lola's landlord gets angry at her because she hasn't paid the rent for four months. During a long argument, Manni tries to convince him to let her stay just another few weeks until she finds another job, but the landlord insists that she moves out unless she gets the 5,000 € by midnight. And so she runs again... The film's title will be Lola's rent.

March 14th:
--  The German book accompanying Tom's latest film Heaven has been published by Belleville Publishers (ISBN: 3-936298-13-0, 14.00 €, ca. US$12).
It contains the complete screenplay, an interview with Tom and an interview with Mathilde Bonnefoy (editor).

March 11th:
--  Tom Tykwer will be one of the guests on the tv talk show Nachtstudio (ZDF, tonight at 0.10 am).

--  And on Wednesday, 13th March, Tom will be guest on the Harald Schmidt Show (Sat1, 11.15 pm).

March 7th:
--   The soundtrack of Heaven has not been released yet due to problems with the rights to some of the tracks. However, you can check out the track listing.

--  And at long last, I uploaded the Heaven section of my homepage. :-) There isn't that much on it yet, but the FAQ, the credits and the soundtrack are a good start, I guess. :-)

February 26th:
--   Last Thursday, Heaven was released in Germany. Tim informs us that the US release of the film has been postponed to October 2002.

--  I updated the multimedia page of the Lola section and fixed some broken links.

--  Also new: the multimedia page of the Princess section.

--  The guestbook doesn't seem to work properly at the moment (I hope I'll fix it some time soon), but you can still use the message board instead.

January 26th:
--  Someone sent me the link to the international/English language trailer of Heaven (7.1 MB!) in English It's quite different from the German one, check it out.

--  Thanks to Elena, here's a link to a long article about Run Lola Run from the Spring 2000 issue of Film Quarterly by Tom Whalenin English

January 24th 2002:
After some huge problems with my ftp server I'm finally back. :-)

--  The German release date of Tom's upcoming film Heaven has been changed to February 21st, the US release date is said to be in March.

--  The official German webpage in German of Heaven is now online, although the only thing you can find there so far is the teaser. The only English-language page so far seems to be the one at Miramax.comin English

--  The German teaser and trailer of Heaven are available in three different sizes:

--  And since the trailer is in German and I haven't found the English trailer yet, here's a quick translation of the trailer into English.

--  German-French tv channel arte will broadcast another X-Filme production, Absolute Giganten by Sebastian Schipper, tonight at 8.45 pm. The film will be broadcast again on February 2nd.

--  Next Monday, German audiences will finally see the Simpsons episode Trilogy of Errors which features an hommage to Run Lola Run.
