Tom Tykwer is born in Wuppertal, Germany. |

At the age of 14, Tom gets a job at the local cinema (surprisingly called
Cinema) in Wuppertal. A few years later, he is offered the master key of the
cinema and takes advantage of that by locking himself in in the middle of the night and
watching the copy of Blade Runner that belongs to the theatre over
and over again. |
| 1984 |
Tom finishes school ('Abitur') with an average of 3.6 (out of 6 with 1 being the best mark)
(Which, considering my personal average, leaves some hope for me, I guess.......). Then he does his 'Zivildienst' (community service as a substitute for the compulsory military service) in Frankfurt and moves to Berlin afterwards, where he works for almost ten years at the cinema Moviemento in Berlin-Kreuzberg. This is also the place where the regulars of the future X-Filme Creative Pool crew meets. |

Because, his first short film, is presented at the Hof Film
Festival. |

Tom Tykwer presents his first feature film: Die tödliche Maria
(Deadly Maria). |

Producer Stefan Arndt and Tom Tykwer are the founders of the production company
X-Filme Creative Pool, they are joined by Wolfgang Becker

Toms third film Lola rennt (Run Lola Run) is released in Germany. |

Run Lola Run is released worldwide and reaches number 18 of the US
box office. Run Lola Run wins in eight categories at the German Film Awards. |

Because of the success of Run Lola Run, Winter
Sleepers is released in the US as well. |
